A Bucket List Producer Tasted on July 20, 2025

Date of Tasting: July 20, 2025

Producer: Maison Leroy

Vintage: 2015

Varietal(s): Pinot Noir

Country: France

Region: Burgundy

Classification: Regional

Score: 93 points

With pinot noir wines, I always like to transfer from my wine refrigerator to a regular refrigerator and place in the refrigerator for an hour to chill them down slightly more. In my opinion pinot noir being a less tannic red variety and having higher levels of acidity for red wine, it should be enjoyed around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. To achieve this I place in the refrigerator for an hour prior to opening. Upon taking out of the refrigerator I aerate these with the cork off for an hour. With pinot noir you don't want to decant these wines.

This wine has such a delicious front palate with strawberry, red fruit, and had such a great mouthfeel. Wine has great balance and is just a seamless wine. Makes me just wonder if this wine tastes like this with fruit which is not domaine sourced, and is regional level, how good are the domaine bottled Leroy wines, and then add a higher designated classification such as village level or premier cru level.

This wine is not incredible, but it is a very enjoyable wine, and for around $200 retail price given the enjoyablility factor and quality of this wine, and given the prestige of the producer (Leroy being one of the most highly esteemed produers in Burgundy) this wine is appropriately priced at around $200 retail price.
